Here’s episode three with our Cake Designer, Amber Gemanie.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from Ravensmead, Cape Town
Q: What did you do before SLH?
A: Before working at SLH I was a cake decorator at another bakery. After graduating from Culinary School in 2014 I’ve worked in a hotel, a factory and a bakery and there I found my love for cakes.
Q: Top tips for making the smoothest ganache under the sun?
A: Smoothest ganache 🤔 I’d say definitely getting your ratios right and knowing that it might adjust in summer and winter. And using a stick blender!
Q: What’s your favourite type of cake design to work on?
A: I think this is a given… hands down it will be fresh floral designs 🌺🌸🌹
Q: Most cakes you’ve frosted and completed in a day?
A: Wow this is a hard – one mini cakes probably over 30…. And normal website cakes (7-10)
Q: Favourite cake project worked on to date?
A: Any cute cake really that I’ve done. I’m always amazed by how cute simple cakes can be.
Q: What’s your fave sweet treat?
A: DARK CHOCOLATE CARAMEL TART with SALTED CARAMEL and DARK CHOCOLATE GANACHE and HAZELNUT PRALINE 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Q: What’s your fave savoury food or snack?
A: Firstly food is life 🥺 so anything really but if I had to choose I’d say… chips
Q: What do you do when you’re not decorating pretty cakes and treats?
A: Walking the dogs on the beach and playing with my nephew.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world to visit for a holiday where would you want to go?
A: Cancún, Mexico 🇲🇽
