Achieving silky smooth Swiss meringue buttercream to frost a gorgeous Mermaid cake is what dreams are made of!

In this two day workshop, the LionHeart Gurls, Nikki and Karmen, are going to show you how to do just that! Plus, you’ll get to frost and tier a two-tiered cake and show off the super skills you’ll be learning.

Date: Tuesday 15th – Wednesday 16th May 2018
Time: 10:00 – 17:00 (please arrive 15-20 minutes before to settle in – note that the times will depend on how fast the group works)
Venue: 37 Durham Avenue, Woodstock, Cape Town
Skill level: Intermediate (advisable to have basic cake decorating knowledge – no beginners)
Class size: 10 pax

In the workshop we will cover the following:

Learn

  • The basics about buttercream and why we love Swiss meringue buttercream
  • Cake decorating equipment & tools
  • Cake design & time planning
  • Transporting tips
  • How to achieve a textured buttercream cake
  • Master the scalloped piping technique
  • Tiering a cake
  • Making a chocolate decoration

 

Getting down to (buttercream) business:

  • Swiss Meringue Buttercream (SMBC) demonstration (we will show you how to make your own at home but will supply frosting to use on the day)
  • Colouring buttercream with gel and powdered colours
  • Stack and fill a cake with sponges and frosting provided
  • Frost your cake with SMBC and achieve a smooth look
  • Applying frosting to achieve a textured buttercream look
  • Applying a scalloped piping technique on a cake
  • Achieving sharp edges on your cake
  • Tiering and doweling a two tiered cake
  • Make your own chocolate decoration to apply onto your cake

What will be provided?

  • Cake decorating equipment and tools, cake sponges, frosting, cake decorations and an apron (these are yours to use for the day but please leave it behind at the end of the class)
  • Tea and coffee to get you started with a snack break about half-way through the workshop.

You will take home:

  • A booklet with theory, recipes and resource list
  • Your beautifully frosted and decorated cake

What to wear?

We will be supplying a full­-length apron but wear comfy clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting full of frosting.
